    Easter is here!

The Rust Easter event goes live when the update hits today. For the third year running, players will be able to enjoy egg hunts, bunny costumes, collectible eggs, and more! This event will be live on all Rust servers for one week. Here is a summary of what to expect:

    Egg hunts
What would Easter be without some egg hunts? It would be a straight garbage Easter, that’s what. Thankfully, no garbage Easter’s here as egg hunts will pop off in Rust every in game day during the event!

Lasting 3 minutes, every egg hunt round provides the opportunity for each player on the server to collect as many eggs as they can. The top 3 players get a special reward:

    1st Place
    3 Silver Eggs

    2nd Place
    1 Silver Egg

    3rd Place
    1 Bronze Egg

Getting to the podium isn’t everything though, as eggs collected during each hunt can be upgraded for bigger and better things…

    Collectible Eggs
Remember the Xmas event with different presents that can be upgraded and opened for goodies? Well this is like that, but just with eggs.

As you play the egg hunt, you collect Painted Eggs. 10 Painted Eggs can be upgraded to a Bronze Egg. From there, you can continue upgrading. Here is a rundown of the different types of eggs you can collect and what can be found in each.

    Egg hunt helpers

There are a couple special Easter items which will help you get on the leaderboard for any egg hunt. First, the Egg Basket, when equipped, allows you to pick up eggs instantaneously with left click (as opposed to having to wait a couple seconds for each pickup, which is the case for any basket-less bunny).

Next are the Bunny Ears and Onesie. Both provide an extended sense, Egg Vision, which allows players to see eggs from farther away during the hunt.

    Special Easter items

There also tends to be a couple special Easter items which show up on the item store once the update launches. Although we won't know exactly what these are till after the update launches, it looks as though a new Bunny Hat is on the list.

I’ll update here with more information once the item store has updated.

    Texas Hold ‘em

A new way to gamble your scrap away enters the game today! The first card game (of hopefully several) has made its way to the gambling capital of Rust, Bandit Camp. Accessible on any of the 5 card tables strewn around the camp, Texas Hold ‘em allows for between 2 and 6 players to play one of the most classic variants of Poker.

Gameplay is pretty straightforward: Simply sit down at an open seat, buy in with scrap (100 min, 1000 max), and get to playing cards! The UI is intuitive and the mechanics are pretty much exactly what you’d expect for playing Texas Hold ‘em. For full details on this new card game in Rust, check out my article for last week: Card Games: What you need to know.

    Gestures wheel

Gestures - which have actually been in the game for a while - finally have a straightforward way of being used. This is all thanks to the brand new UI element: the gestures wheel. Brought up by holding the ‘b’ key by default (can be changed in settings), this radial menu allows players to easily access any of the 10 unique hand motions in Rust. It’s super easy, just hold ‘b’, move your mouse to the gesture you want, then let go. Viola! You’ve just gestured.

There were also a bunch of various other facets of gestures which were implemented with this body of work including sounds and the ability to lock / unlock gestures. Although the locking isn’t being used at the moment, it could come in handy in the future.

    Slot improvements

Card games aren’t the only shift in the Rust gambling space for this update. The recently added Slot Machines have received a slight overhaul this month allowing for some new functionality. Specifically, players can now modify their scrap bet on each spin (2 min, 10 max) as opposed to the set bet previously in place. Also, the payouts have been slightly modified (see below).

    Performance improvements

A number of miscellaneous server and client performance improvements have made their way in this month. As you may recall, there were some noted performance bottlenecks on high population / entity servers last month. Hopefully those along with some other issues have been resolved with this patch. Check out the devblog once it pops off for more details.

    Balance shifts

There have been a number of miscellaneous shifts to balance this month. Here are some highlights:

    • Heavy armor now prevents mounting of horses due to weight limitations

    • Reduced cloth harvest yield from NPC corpses (was 10, now 5)

    • Team mates can now enter vehicles purchased in a safe zone without the vehicle owner needing to first depart

    • Vehicles are now repossessed after 5 minutes instead of 2

    • Reduced hostile duration for players hit by peacekeeper turrets to 5 from 30

    Other stuff

Here’s a list of other things which made it in this month. Note, this does not cover the slew of other projects which are being worked on but didn’t make the cut for this update - expect some more details on that in the devblog.

    • Two card game tables have been added to Hapis (along with a couple more red key cards)

    • L96 is now skinnable

    • Fixed a bunch of description typos and updated some outdated descriptions to be more helpful to newer players

    • Convar to show / hide blood added (global.showblood)

    • Teleport2death convar added for admins (takes you to the location of your last death)
