Xmas is here (early!)

It’s that time of year again - Rust Xmas has arrived and will be showering Newmans with gifts for the next two weeks. It also appears as though this patch is hitting a bit earlier than expected...

Patch time: Wednesday @ 19:00GMT

A mandatory patch will be hitting shortly. Expected at around 19:00GMT on Wednesday, this mandatory server and client update will turn on the Rust Xmas event which will run through the holidays. This patch will not force a wipe and Rustafied servers will still wipe at their regularly scheduled times on Thursday. That said, it will introduce some fun dynamics which we only see this time of year.

Santa’s Sleigh

Airdrops are much more festive with the advent of Rust Xmas. Instead of the soulless drone of the C130 overhead, the skies of Rust will be graced with festive sleigh bells and Old St. Nick with his team of reindeer, dropping huge presents with sparkling star trails. Not only does this sound and look festive as fuck, the airdrop loot is much improved. 

Presents

If you’ve been around for any previous Rust Xmas events, you’ll be familiar with these presents. Every in game day, a jingle will sound, and around every player in the game will spawn a couple presents. 

Whack them a bit (they have 30 health) and you’ll be treated to 1 or more small or medium presents. These presents can be unwrapped or upgraded to higher tiers, which yield better loot. At the moment, this appears to be the same loot as last year's event.

Stockings

Hung around the chimney (err, campfire) with care, this duo of deployables loads up with items over time - a long time. You’ll know when there’s some goodies inside when they start dazzling sparkles from the top.

Will there be other holiday themed items hitting the item store like previous years? Probably. I have no official word yet on what (if any) items will be available, but I’ll make sure to update this post as soon as more comes to light.
