Cargo remained stationary the entire time it was out. Scientist and crates all spawned as expected. It didn't leave map/disappear on it's own after the final crate was cleared.

Did it despawn normally?

It remaining stationary just happens at times. Occasionally it even sits there, stationary, but with nothing at all on it.

Game bug and happens occasionally. It sorts itself out eventually.

No Granny I had to remove it after it sat for 45 minutes after the final horn. sounds like it's all good now though.
