I dropped 5x10k sulfur ore into a large furnace, and for some reason, it only shows 5 x 9,920 ores. I'm missing 400 ores even before smelting starts. Also, I've noticed instances where I've put 5 x 10k ores into the large furnace, and gotten less sulfur out when it's all done and dusted.
