The survival fish trap has code that checks if a player has "looked into its inventory", and if so it resets the fish trap so it can catch something again. Pipes take fish from the survival trap but do not reset that flag so they stop catching fish. The removal of fish trap decay on survival servers would also help create fish farms that actually produce.
