I was using the VIP recycler and all of the items vanished and a broken hatchet was put into my inventory..apparently the hatchet belonged to a teammate and he was recycling at the same time i guess i was. He ended up with my recycled goods and I his.

So it is safe to say that the VIP recycler is switching contents with other players.
