How do I protect my ship?

Hi everyone, I'm new to this update. I haven't played for almost 2 years.

How can I protect my ship so it doesn't get destroyed? I've already lost 2 ships.
I leave everything set up properly, but the next day it's gone.

Is there a way to protect it? I'm not sure if other players destroy it or if it disappears automatically.

i think if you leave it anchored at shore in your tc range it should last a few more hours. Many have said the decay is less fast if it is not left in edit mode but unsure if that's the case. it does start to decay as soon as you get off the wheel. i don't think these boats are intended to last very long, so always haul off anything valuable and rebuild when you wish to sail again.

The boats decay in about 18 hours but if you mount the steering wheel on the boat and have a boat building station on you. You should get a option to deploy and edit when looking at the steering wheel and once you deploy the building station it will put you in edit mode and once ya pick it back up your boat is fully repaired.
