New Base Layout??

I'm still doing some layout work on our new base, but it was suggested that people might be interested in setting up a town around the base.  I did some preliminary layout in the shallow part of the map SW of the dome just to see how everything scaled in the shallow place.  I think with our base we could add a 60x60 section onto it for people to build in.  I don't know if 60x60 is big enough given some of the massive builds people have, but those could be built around the outside as well.

Sorry - this looks a ton better in the CAD program I use.  Yellow is the base layout, the double hexegon thing is the base we were looking at building.  The large square is the common area with some 1 high walls and towers around it for protection.  The grey cricles are TCs, so you can get a feel for how many bases you can fit inside the area with room for walk ways in such.  Also the large square could be bigger or smaller depending what area we have to work with.

Thoughts?  Next full wipe we're going to build something much smaller!  Also all this assumes there a large enough flat spot and people want to build like this - most likely in the shallow water.

Yes, yes it is.  If I was from Texas, I'd say "everything is bigger in Texas".  However, I'm from the midwest so we don't say things like that!  It would be easy enough to scale it back a little and remove the large box and just let people build around it however.  I'll scale the outside hexagon a little - that will shrink it a good chunk and remove the large box!  Also we'll probably build it in a shallow area up against the deep section as opposed to just plopping it down in the middle.

Thanks for the feedback!

I've seen it, but can't use it from work because everything is locked down.  What I put up there was just 2D CAD that we do use at work.  Maybe I'll get it and mess around with it at home!  Thanks.

That's massive :) and midwest unite my man! hell texas or not call it how you see it. Thats got to cost alot of resources to build and digging the honeycomb you got going on. I assume the big square area is for furnaces? and if you need some help looking it over for flaws when it comes to realtime build I could be of some assistance if you'd like

The center was a common area for others to build in - like a castle wall around a city.  In between the hexagons was just a buffer area so you don't get people building right on top of you.  I think we have the resources, but using fotify would verify that to some degree.  I'm going to scale down a little on the hexagons, toss it in fortify just to see where we're sitting.  Not sure how long that will take - if it's like building in Rust, it should be fast.

dumb down the size and tell me the scale and i can whip you up the ground level since you're at work and then you can see what just the first floor will cost then multiply according your levels. are the foundations sheet metal and walls stone? I use Foritfy like a mad man and love building in it and work doesn't restrict my usage and what i do ;)

If you do the hexagon in the middle there are 8 squares between the "towers".  Each tower is 6 triangles with another set of triangels and sqaures around it.  Currently there are 8 squares between each tower, make that 6 and see what you get.  All stone for walls and foundations - the inside of each of the 6 large triangles (of the main hexagon) is actually empty.  And the rooms are just empty until I figure out the bracing for going up.  One pie of the hexagon will be 1 story, the next two will be 2, the next 3 and the last piece across from the 1 story will be 4 with some other features.  The one story will be solid walls - helicopter safe.  All the other sections will be walls on the 1st floor, windows all other floors.  Also the 2, 3 and 4 story section will have not hae a 2nd floor - the first floor will be 2 stories tall so it doesn't feel as cramped.

I have throught about this way too much...

Got the main ground level set so far. I used harder hatches so it's less congested. It's a running build to maybe help you gather more thoughts. I took some shots and will upload later for you. Even if you use fortify I'll finish so you can compare. And you could make this in PvP and every triangle foundation would be honeycombed. Imagine trying to raid this base lol

Hell it's do-able if you have everyone willing enough grind away at farming. If you could get people to farm for a straight day you could have it built the following day. So again it's do-able regardless of crackhead raiders, just need the mind set to pull off that obstacle.

Honestly it is not too big, I have made some largish layouts.  The biggest challenge is foundation and terrain to layout  this many blocks.  I usually end up with one or two that are not right and cuss a bit and work around them.  It messes up the symmetry though.  Pre-wipe on Vanilla I had a 15 wide ovalish building that just barely fit in the terrain, and an out building so similar size that had a gap in one wall.  I suspect you would have to break it into two or four sections to deal with terrain level differences.

If you can find a spot on the map that will fit this I will help you build this, but not on PVP.  I not that crazy, close, but not quite.

I was able to build a whole middle section on the current survival server and came out a fair bit for the exterior wall around it.  If the new map has a large shallow water spot it will work, but won't know how big the shallow will be (if there is one at all of any size) or where it will be.  It could be near nothing - which people like to be near loot and stuff.  We're stocking up for the move and will be ready Thursday night to hit the ground running.  My first goal will be just twigging the foundations turn over the large square over to others and work on the hexagon piece with Werevealed.  People can build whatever they want in the large square section, maybe some metal foundations for walkways and people can go nuts.  I think it's large enough so TCs won't be an issue if people space out well.
