I know I'm late to this party (so this probably wont be read anyway) but the survey started before we even joined the server (we joined the last week of April), and while i am not 100% against decay I'm also not happy about it, I just used a build server so scale down the base we had planned for next wipe, i scaled down to 25% (one quarter) the size we had planned and its still 102k stone per 24 hours, for a full wipe that is 3.1 MILLION stone, even at the proposed 50% rate that’s 1,550,000 stone for a full wipe, a large chest holds 48k stone, so that would be 32 large chests and 1 small chest full of stone for a wipe for what i consider to be a small (PVE) base.
For more context on the resource requirement that would be 155 diesel in the giant excavator so you would have to run it for 310minutes or 5.16 hours, the same players bitching about large bases will be the same players bitching if i use GE for 5 hours but i physically wouldn’t be able to do it and i wouldn’t want to, for players like us that get 2-4 hours in the evening after our kids are in bed its just not do-able and i don’t want to live in some shitty 2X2 PVP style base, we build large fun bases and try to interact with other players as much as possible, the only reason we even us vending machines is that most players prefer them, i would prefer an actual shop front and bartering.
All this is before we even get into other ways to deal with lag and the other issues some players are raising (which are actually mostly non-issues 2 seconds of lag while the server loads a chunk is not a big deal), 10 days for a base to wipe due to not logging in is daft it should be 5-7 days max, when i first joined the server an admin explicitly told me it was one windmill per base (windmills are the single largest lag causing entity in the game because of how facepunch designed them to track real time wind data from the entire map INCLUDING player entities you can literally build around someone’s base to stop their windmill from working), but this limit is not enforced, there is also (as far as i am aware) no rule about multiple bases so many players have 4+ bases so they can "teleport" to monuments, if you are not allowed to camp monuments then then why are people allowed to build a base outside each monument? That's just camping via the proxy of a base! And also means players like us who actually traverse the map by driving or using a train to get to the monument never get a look in!
Case and point i just check our current map, doing a run around the Missile silo "no build ring" only counting bases directly next to it, and there are 25 bases, 4 of these have vending machines and only 2 other are large enough to be a main base, so we have 19 bases that are 1x1, 2x2 or similar, one is literally a twig platform with 4 sleeping bags on it, clearly not a main base, these are clearly "teleport bases" and also leads me to the sleeping bag issue, i didn’t count around missile silo but i saw plenty of them and no matter where you are on the map you cant walk more than 10 feet without seeing one.
Sorry Death but I'm calling BS on this one, 1.4 Million stone in 1 day with just a jackhammer? go on then! I DOUBLE DOG, DOCTOR WHO DONUT DARE YOU! to upload a YouTube video of you mining 1.4 Million stone in under 24 hours with just a Jackhammer (no teas or pies) but i wont count prep time so you can build a staging ground base before you set off, "some can do it in a few hours" LMAO what utter tripe, well I'm giving you the full 24 hours lets see shall we?
i think you are underestimating the amount of space it takes to grow things like berries for the teas, the above base i discussed is as small as i could make it while still having 2 3X3 planter box spaces and that less than half our current grow space, sure we could still do it but we wouldn’t be able the make the same kind of quantity and accounting for the time lost that we will have to spend farming materials to deal with the decay the price would likely be triple or more (we currently charge 20 scrap for a pure tea), your analysis works for a real society where some people deal with maintenance while others grow food, this would be a change to a game where everyone loses time to maintenance.
@Jayydog Stole me mafs!
