In my suggestion I clearly stated that it would be a logical first step in addressing an issue.  Baby steps... if that doesn't work, maybe limiting specific entity counts would be a next step but just like real life, blanket bans on things like planters and composters without thoughtful game theory on how it might play out is how you end up with game breaking unintended consequences and blowback.

It's not a blanket ban, it's a limit. I don't even know exactly what number we're all agreeing to limiting them to. But we're not banning anything.
If the issues on the server revolve around entity counts, why would we start with something else that's not even directly related to the issue? You say it's a cause-effect thing, but the Shop isn't what's causing the problems on the server. You're making a deal out of the Shop, which only relates to Farming in theory. Can you provide any actual evidence to back up your claims?

We know for a fact at this point that the number of entities is causing issues. Why wouldn't we start with that? It makes no sense to start with something else.

@SKUDRUNNER The only things i can think of is maybe like a pop up like for the raidable bases or maybe add another icon beside the normal heli hud that has a different type of emblem for personal helis

It would be nice to see an additional icon or notification used to help players distinguish between public and personal helis. It's announced in global chat – but that tends to scroll off the screen in no time.

I like that, but that worries me to that people are going to ignore that... Aurora you know just as well what I mean when somebody says they don't care enough to pay attention lol

I'm just wondering what we could do that would get noticed without being intrusive

  3. I second this, but I don't know how we'd go about making a better announcement without it being intrusive. You can put a pop-up on the screen, but then people are just going to complain it gets in the way. You can leave as is, and then we have what happened yesterday, where someone told an admin they're not here to chat and thus don't even look at it.

We both want something better, but I personally don't have any good ideas for this.

  4. The best thing you can do for this community is not act like a "ravaging goblin", and instead embrace all of our new members and welcome them into our community. People aren't inherently bad, and yet you come here saying that chat is now "obnoxious" and everyone's a "goober". All you're doing is adding to that idea. Be nice to people, welcome them in, and in turn, they will do the same when they, like you, have been around for a while and new players join. You don't want to be a dick, yet you stand here insulting the community by saying you don't want to play with them and would rather pay extra money not to play with them. How much of a dick can you be?

You're only contributing to the problem that you think you're trying to solve. Just be nice and welcoming.

     - The volume of builds make it feel like there's no more wilderness on the map.

A sub-only server isn't going to fix this. Just because there's more room means people are only going to build bigger. Mind you, and I'm sorry to call this person out, Sleet13 is a Subscriber and currently has the biggest base on US Scourge, covering about 2-3 grids worth of space. He's out of the way, in a corner of the map, nobody seems to have taken offense to it. And mind you the whole map is not covered with bases. You can always build in a different spot or ask an admin to tear down one of those blocker TC's.

     - I've stopped visiting monuments because there's a 99% chance it's been looted.

     - The end-game type stuff like brad, and oil rigs are usually swarming with people who fight over loot.

     - Helis, personal or public, are a shit show.  I had the loot yanked from the first heli I did this wipe from a group of goobs who don't understand the concept of PvE.  Luckily Death was around and tossed me a few crates to make up for it.  I've had to build a heli base in the ocean just to get away from people but that comes with its own issues like trying to find dark green crates in dark green seaweed..  The last heli I did had people shooting at it from a nearby base trying to down it..  Telling them to stop in chat was useless and they still came over looking for "earned" loot on a heli I called in for 50k worth of scrap..

This is a learning experience for everyone involved. Mind you, a lot of people who come to our servers aren't always new to Rust. I know many who are coming from PvP servers, just to get away from it, and know no better about how loot is handled on our servers. To protect the integrity of a Community PvE on our servers, we have some comparatively strict rules that people have to learn and get accustomed to. And where it takes someone a little too long to learn, our Staff is doing their best to handle those people. If you continue to have problems, please report people to Staff. Never be afraid to say their names to our team.

I hear your complaints. We all do. I just want you to understand the reason I'm mildly irritated with your complaint is the first one I discussed in this post. You're acting like the community that uses our servers isn't worth you, and you'd rather pay to not play with them. Find a different community if you're going to be like that.

  5. Sorry, I'm not staff. But I will repeat something to you that Staff does stand by and we've heard a thousand times before.

If a term is used derogatorily or has negative connotation, we do not allow the use of it. It doesn't matter if a gay man wants to call someone else gay, the term is still frowned upon. Part of the reason both uses of the N word, and not just the hard R is on the language filter is so people don't try to bypass the filter and be racist.

A staff member will be here soon to sort out your ban. I just wanted to help you understand why this has happened the way it has. If you are unbanned, please be more cautious of your use of terms like that.

I and several other players on US Scourge were discussing ideas on how to prevent the Bradley from being so heavily camped, and here's a conglomeration of the ideas I gathered to help with that.

    (If Possible...)

    • Tweak Bradley to Spawn with a rate more equivalent to Cargoship or Patrol Heli (or more often, as necessary).
    • Potential for Leveling system like the Patrol Heli, giving more loot or better loot at a higher level. Maybe even harder to kill at a higher level, forcing more resources, and potentially teamwork. (This could work well alongside the damage-loot script, whenever it's re-implemented.)
    • Icon on the HUD when it's active, like the Heli, CH47, and etc, and a chat announcement when it spawns (so people don't need to sit inside Launch Site, they can just wait on the announcement).

Obviously I don't know if any of this is possible, but if they're all working together, I do believe it would solve the camping issue that (at least) US Scourge seems to have.

Just thought of another way to satiate people's desire for taking Bradley- Add a Bradley Distress Signal to the Black Market. Works similar to the Heli signals, except it's more expensive and only spawns at Launch Site. Two can't be spawned at the same time, similar to heli. Always gives a chat announcement when a personal Bradley is deployed, and takes 30 seconds to actually spawn, allowing other players time to take cover or vacate before it does spawn. Should probably have a cooldown, if possible.

  8. The problem with exclusivity servers is they tend to become, and pardon my French.... Circlejerks. Great, you paid a bit of money and now you're in a special club with other people just like you. And these people are going to say that their server is so much better and talk about how bad the other servers and people on them are.

I do not like this idea. Sorry I had to be so blunt with it, but I don't think we really need to put a divide in the community in the form of Exclusive server access. There's a reason VIP's don't have queue priority, either.

  9. As the title suggests, some people would like to see the servers Auto-Restart every 6 hours, to hopefully account for a day's worth of wear on the server being somewhat refreshed.

I know that new server hardware is on the way, which may eliminate the need for this. In the meantime, however...

  10. The conversation for who gets the loot, based on how much damage they think they did, has been a topic of contention for a long time. It's hard to define, but there is a difference between, say, a player shooting arrows at the Bradley, and a player throwing grenades at it. Either person can claim they did damage and take a cut of the loot, but who's really doing the work there? It's something that is going to have to be worked out case by case. I don't think there's any way a listed rule will make a difference.

I agree with RepeatPete, as the old loot-damage script was a nice step forward. It's unfortunate that was removed, hopefully it will come back soon.

It would be great to clarify rules for various events on the server, such as required damage percentages to loot and other items that may be known to regulars but not listed anywhere on the website or in game.

Is this in regards to events such as the Patrol Heli, or Bradley?

  12. I gotta bump this suggestion. It's becoming apparent that people enjoy building "bridges" across these rivers, and they just don't stop building more. Not to mention the number of teleport foundations placed along rivers, it makes the rivers feel worthless any more than a week after a wipe. I'd love to be able to pick pumpkins without having to farm my own.

Edit: Pardon the low quality. It's excessive buildings like this that make rivers tough for the rest of us to use.

  13. (You're primarily on US Scourge, right?)

I do agree that something could be done about this. I've also had to deal with a respawned oil rig, that also just so happens to have all the leftover heavies still on it. I'm not sure what can be done other than increasing the timer length, so I'll vouch for that.

The only issue I'm seeing is that tampering the timer for one locked crate, probably changes all of the timers. It might explain why not only are the oil rig crates at 1 minute, but so is the CH-47 crate, and the cargo crates. If the timers can be separated, I'd personally set the oil rig timers back to 15 minutes, the default.

  14. I've been thinking about how much the Admin/Staff teams have to go through on a daily basis in RustEZ. What can we as the community do to assist the Staff? Some of us went and applied, joined an admin team, and that's all fine and dandy. Sometimes the job becomes daunting; dealing with bad, toxic players, moderating and keeping things friendly, trying to solve everyone's issues, all at the same time, it must be tough. Sometimes, Staff isn't available; after all, we do have lives. What happens then?

Might I suggest a role for trusted Community members to participate in. Giving powers to players that they don't normally have, so that they may be of basic assistance to others. Where a player new to Rust joins the server and needs help getting started, they can easily call upon a Support member to help them on their way, to one day loot their own coveted M249. Where help is needed because somebody fell asleep in someone else's house, they can call upon Support to have the sleeper moved and tucked in somewhere warm... or cold (sleep is for the weak!). Is there a player being rude and obnoxious and needs to be dealt with? Have a support member Mute or Kick them for a while.

In essence, give powers to the Support members to be able to handle the basic tasks, while our Staff handles the more extreme or important stuff.

Here's a breakdown showing how this Support role would differ from a Staff role.

    Kick/Mute Players: Support , Staff
    Ban Players: Staff Only
    Teleport/Fly Powers: Support , Staff
    Godmode: Staff Only
    Discord Moderation: Support , Staff
    Web/Forum Moderation: Staff Only

Consider Support members as a rank lower than Staff. Support is made up of trusted members of our community, but that doesn't give them access to the same privileges or expectations that Staff has. Thus, the separation of powers should come in the form of Support being seen as members of the community, not those leading it. Support has no say or charge in any of the behind-the-scenes stuff that goes on in RustEZ. However, I think this Support role could become a stepping stone into a Staff role. A Support member that shows themself as exemplary could be given the honor of being asked to come onto a Staff team, should they choose to accept. Only then would they become Staff, not just a privileged member of the community.

Support members should probably go through a similar Application/Acceptance process as admins do, but this time have recommendation from a Staff member. I don't think this is a role to be given away, but rather something that you show yourself as worthy of, to which a Staff member can vouch for you.

Please share any feedback you have about having a Support role, or anything you'd like to suggest be changed about my suggestion. Thank you for reading.

I'd like to give a special thank you to Spliff, who was very kind enough to answer some questions about how Staff/Adminship works, without alluding into the behind-the-scenes stuff that a commoner such as myself doesn't see.

Is it possible to add more monuments in the future so other people have more chances to get the top tier weapons?

I think we were actually playing around with this not too long ago- We had custom monuments on the last wipe, though I didn't visit 2 of the 3, and don't know what goodies they might've had inside. I do think we're experimenting with the idea of custom monuments, and we're probably going to re-enable the raidable Garrisons again.

I'm not staff, so don't take my word for it.

Secondly there appears to be a bug with some planters not receiving water from sprinklers. Several people including me are currently having this issue.

I can vouch for this bug, I noticed it last wipe too, although my planter did eventually start receiving water. I don't know if this an issue with something done to Scourge however, so it may need testing on Pure or something. I have a feeling it might be a rare Rust-wide issue.

  17. - No

Although last day of wipe is boring to some, there are others that are still doing things to prepare for the next wipe. In my and other people's cases, we run Pumpjacks 24/7 through the wipe, and the last day is usually my big sell day; where I dump all of my LGF into the Black Market for credits going into the next wipe. I would be devastated to lose all that work right at the end of the wipe.

We do hold events on the server, every so often. Some of those are PvP. However, the server should remain PvE apart from these events. I'm also (fairly) certain that staff is still working to give us more things to do, in terms of being able to use PvP items like C4, Rockets, etc. It looks like the Garrisons plugin was disabled this wipe, maybe that will eventually come back with some better loot for us to raid to.

Just some feedback with the zombies, I find that the zombies don't pose enough of a threat. They are very easy to kill and are too few in numbers. I think there may be some room to increase their health or even increase their numbers. It's too simple to just pop zombies in the noggin with a revolver or bow and go about your day. I'd love to actually feel threatened when a horde of zombies come sprinting towards me.

Adding to this, if they could chase you into buildings or get onto a platform instead of just standing there saying shoot me please...

The number of zombies per grid was recently decreased, although I'm not sure it has been raised again yet. The number of zombies on the map has always been a point of contention, as a large amount of bodies usually brings more lag. This was especially noticeable in places like Bandit Camp, where the bandits were almost always shooting trying as zombies just kept flooding in.

As for their pathing, I don't think that's something that can be fixed by a server owner. I think our zombies are modified slightly, but the zombies are actually built into the game itself, pretty sure we're just using a plugin to have them constantly enabled. The zombies follow similar, if not the same, pathing as other AI, like Animals or Scientists. Where a map is procedurally generated and so is the AI's pathing on the map, the pathing for any random combination of player buildings on top of that map is not pathed.

If possible to do, I like this.
