Purifying Pure

Hey guys,

Haven't been around this summer. Decided to stop in early June, after 36 consecutive wipes on RustEZ (30 on US Pure, 5 on Elysium, 1 on EU Pure). Needed a break (or possibly a cure for Rust ;))

Then early this month I saw a Welyn vid and started getting twitchy... My addiction came back (FU Welyn!). Before automatically returning to US Pure, I just searched "PVE" out of curiosity and ended up trying a server with a better ping (for me anyway) and more pop that US pure. It's pretty good, basically vanilla, much like what's being planned here. Only stand-out is they have a jail, where they send offenders rather than kicking or banning them immediately. So if you kill someone, you automatically go to jail and have to appeal on Discord. Seems to be working for them cause I've barely seen any trolls, thieves or toxic players. Anyways, the point isn't the jail thing, point is it's vanilla.

Having played this wipe on that server though, it made me miss quite a few things. That's why I plan on coming back in October because, well, HALLOWEEN!! I dare hope there will be a build contest? Anywho, there is ONE specific thing I really miss being able to do, but first here at the others :

  1. I miss the salvaged hammer! Ah man, having to destroy a wall or foundation after the fact is a really painful process if it's been upgraded... You may just end up keeping it as part of your build, but it'll bug ya... Salvaged hammer allowed for easily perfecting your design, so creatively it's great.

  2. I miss the no decay or better yet the "lesser" decay of Elysium (is it full on or halved?). On the server I'm on rn, diesel is the only way to get decent HQM, so if you built armoured you're constantly on the hunt for those black barrels... It's kind of a ridiculous update for PVE, cause now you got a bunch of guys flying  around from WT to AF, to Dome, to PP, to JY, trying to get all the diesel they can in on run. Can't imagine what it's like for players on foot, to walk all the way to one of those only to find it's all been yanked already.
    ***
  3. I do miss the instanced quarries, PJ's and excavator. Though I understand how they make us all "rich" more quickly, which allows to create massive builds, which hurts performance. I've advocated against them. However, right now, having to go "Any1 at EXC?", then "yes, me", then "How long you think?", then "I just put 40 barrels in", then "..." . So now you can't use EXC for 80 mins...
    ***
  4. I miss the deployable recycler. Without em, a lot of people end up wanting to build near one, so a mining outpost, Sperm Ket, Bandit, Outpost, etc. I like that people can build more "spread out", better for performance. A recycler helps with that.
    ***
  5. BUT, the ONE thing I really miss is /SIL. On this server I'm on, /SIL is only reserved for donors. Probably for performance reasons. One time donation to the server is 50 bucks! Yikes. Since I'm not even sure if I'll ever even play there again, I'm not ready to fork over such an amount. But I do find it very annoying (if not insulting) that a few players can use it and I can't. So they can sell "art", meanwhile I can't even decorate the way I want to, do it myself and be creative. I find that /SIL on Pure really allows people to be creative, original, and it's just a lot of fun all around to see what people can come up with. Like putting a spinning wheel on a table with an image of a pie or a pizza, making a fake door at the end of a corridor, or making casino stuff using wheels or signs with images they created themselves in Photoshop or whatever. And for people who don't have much design skill, they can just find stuff that already exists out there. It allows for a lot of creativity, especially when it comes to a build contest. Without that, meh.

All in all, I understand the changes being made. Pop is down. Wipes do "end" quite quickly. But still, if ALL of these things are removed, what's the hook? What makes Pure appealing if it's exactly like all other vanilla servers?

I came to RustEZ through the community tab for Pure, at the time quarries were instanced but not GE. I recall having a ton of fun and not using quarry/GE anyway. The tech trees were unlocked through running the roads, monuments and farming. No /sil was great, i had some terrible looking signs and so did everyone else. 😅

Is the store stuff preventing the server from being in the Community tab? Cause I can see removing all the guns, first off. All they do is give some players the ability to kill off Brad or Karen within the first hour or so of the wipe, and then again, and again, providing huge loot and a definite boost super early in the wipe. So that definitely hurts retention, and it also lessens the value of many items.

Bun "fun" stuff like webs, gravestones, Pookies, etc., or quality of life stuff like door closers; couldn't we keep those??

We cannot sell items on community unfortunately. Facepunch sees it as pay to win and has no interest in compromising for PVE

I'm sad it has to change, but it's the way it is.

I think this wipe will be my last wipe because I played on this server only for instanced quarries, test generators and portable recycler... made Rust a peaceful world good to relax after a hard day working.

I'll try to find another server like the actual Pure, and hope in the future you will restore it.

Anyways, thank you for all the good times spent on your well cared server.

Fools. They could just have a PVP deploy and a PVE deploy with different default server options...

And they're making money off skins for buildings... not adding a new material, like a new brick build upgrade, that would change the mechanics of the game and affect PVP, change it up a bit. No no, just skins. You know, like in RPGs? Or, em... PVEs?!?!??

They say they have no interest in PVE, but DLCs are like "Music intruments", "Disco stuff", "A new hazzy that's cosmetically different only". But yeah, not interested in PVE...sure. There must be SO many players in PVP building a bar with luminous dance floors and instruments...

If you want that kind of experience still, I recommend trying out our modded servers. Actual Pure is vanilla, as it has been for 5 years. It's only recently gotten the features you listed the past year after we were forced under modded.

I interpreted Death's post:  "Removal of the donation store. (Only memberships will be purchasable.)"  Means no  goodies from the store.  I'm not sure if that means for the daily air drop, but it's not until December.

The only thing you'll be able to purchase from the cash store would be VIP and Subscriber. None of which will offer any perks other than the colored username. We'll work to implement some perk ideas suitable for a community server.

There's a program on Steam called Rustangelo 😛

Yeah I'm not going back to that... waiting for 30mins for something very basic that doesn't even come out right, no way.

Is /SIL even something that prevents being in the community server hub? If not you should definitely keep it. Performance is already going to improve immensely.

Hellooo I'm Taylor from US Pure

Brad and I joined RustEZ in May last year!

We were NEW to Rust and having had dreadful experiences on PVP officials even small populated PVP servers - when we found the RustEZ US Pure server it was like a gift from the Rust GODS and we never looked back!🤩

I welcome these changes AND I hope our members do too!!!

I'm all about the aesthetics 😍 I like to decorate and make things look cute so the hammer will be missed but even when we first joined we didn't know the hammer existed until our second wipe! I will just have to think long and hard before I place that fireplace down! I already told Brad to get ready to make 100s of salvage swords for renovations just like our first Rust experiences! 🤪

I am fearful that the already dwindling population is going to grow even smaller. The general consensus seems to be leaning towards leaving the server all together in light of these upcoming changes. I hope that this works in favor of the population and not against it. Very interested to see how the next wipe plays out.
